Question: how many instruments have you made to help teliscopes around the world?

  1. I have helped to make software for the IceCube Neutrino Observatory, and I have helped to build both the Dark Energy Camera (DECam) and a smaller version of DECam known as PreCam. Now I am helping to build a fibre-optic positioner system that will be used in the Giant Magellan Telescope starting sometime around 2020. We are also building a smaller version of that to use on the UK Schmidt telescope at Siding Spring observatory starting around 2015. So I’ve worked on four or five different instruments now, and I also have a few others that are still early in the planning stages.
