I am having trouble thinking what you mean by the question, but I will try to give an answer. If I am answering the wrong question, please add a comment and I will try again.
I would certainly defend the right of scientists to explore science without people telling them they should not on religious grounds (ethical grounds are different; experiments that hurt people or animals should be off limits, and I think an experiment that would clone a human being raises too many issues we cannot answer yet).
And I would defend the right of people to have religious beliefs – again provided that their religion does not harm people or animals.
Thinking more about it – perhaps you mean because I am in the DEFENCE Science & Technology Organisation – then the short answer is we help defend Australia.
Thankyou, that was what I ment thankyou
