Question: why is the sea salty?

Keywords:

  1. Salt is a very common mineral. It is found in the ground and dissolves in rivers which then run down into the sea, where some of the water evaporates, but the salt does not, so the seas have gradually become more and more salty.

  2. @polkadot: As rainwater falls on the land and runs back to the sea it dissolves minerals from the rocks. Over a period of time, these minerals have collected in sea making the water taste salty.

  3. Apart from those answers, which are great, it’s also the tears from sharks who are crying because they know we’re scared of them.

  4. @polkadat… I think @DJ wins my vote on this one 🙂

    But what a great question!
