Question: can humans mate with apes and create a life? is it possible since we are practically the same?

  1. No. The definition of a “species” is based on the idea that members of different species either cannot mate and produce offspring that are fertile. So all races of people (for example black, white, “yellow” – the technical terms are negroid, caucasian and oriental ) are the same species. There are very few cases where closely related species can have offspring (children) – for example a horse and a donkey can mate and produce a mule or a hinny (depending on whether the mother or the father is the horse), but the offspring cannot have have more offspring (the technical term is infertile).
On some cases species cannot physically mate (how would you mate a magpie with a whale?)
In some cases they have mating rituals that mean they do not mate (various species of birds of paradise have special dances – no dance, no mating).
And in some cases, mating is possible but will not produce offspring.

  2. we share around 98.5% of our DNA with ape species such as the chimpanzees, but as Peter has explained, we can not produce offspring with them. To put it in perspective, we share around 97.5% of our DNA with mice!

  3. I once saw a Ligar or a Tigon at the zoo (cant remember which). Obviously, it was a cross between a tiger and a lion. These big cats evolved long distances from each other and were still able to reproduce. However, the catch was that it could not have babies itself. Cruel or not? I cant decide.
