Question: how do tectonic plates move and why

  1. Think of the Earth as a big ball of melted chocolate, with some bits of solid chocolate floating on top. The melted chocolate is the core and the solid chocolate pieces are the tectonic plates. They can move around on the melted chocolate, and as they do new chocolate oozes up between them and solidifies. This is basically what is happening.
