Question: how do you know how do you know the life span of a star is if we haven't even been around for millions of years?

Keywords: ,

  1. Good question. The answer is sort of the same as “how do you people can live to 100 years old if you haven’t lived that long?” We can see stars (or people) at different stages of their life, and we can put together a picture of how stars (or people) advance from one stage to the next. Especially when some stars “die”, they blow up in an event we call a supernova. We can often tell how old the star was that caused the supernova, so that is one way we can tell how old stars get.
