@stitch22: well, not in the sword swishing knights and shining armor fire-breathing kind of dragon… but Komodo dragons, water dragons and bearded dragons are all real – have you seen them? They’re all kinds of lizards. I have seen komodo dragons (big enough to be a bit scary!) and I used to look after a bearded dragon (they love eating dandelion flowers and leaves!).
No. Perhaps the idea was based on seeing large snakes, or even skeletons of dinosaurs. Sea dragons were possibly based on seeing parts of a giant squid.
Often these were stories to frighten people
