@medontknow: Good question, because we’ve all see dogs do it, haven’t we?!
A friend of mine (her name is Sam) actually studied this very question for her PhD a few years ago. She studied 12 dogs and found that all of them ate grass when given the opportunity, they had a preference for certain types of grass over others and they are less likely to eat grass if they’ve had their normal meal first. She concluded that grass eating in dogs is normal, part of their normal diet and not related to them being unwell and shouldn’t be considered a problem behaviour.
