Twitching can be caused by a number of things. A nerve being set off is one (this can be caused by a small electric shock, or just be random). Boredom is another – we tend to jiggle our legs if we wish we were somewhere else. A third one is called “restless legs syndrome” – it can involve more than just legs, but is most common in the legs, and can range from a slight discomfort behind the knees to the feeling that you simply MUST move your legs or you will go mad!
We can also twitch in our sleep. Normally when we sleep our connection to our muscles is limited to moving our eyes, but sometimes a bit gets through to other places.
@jayna: Hello! Muscle twitching is caused by minor muscle contractions in your body, or uncontrollable twitching of a group of muscles that are controlled by a single nerve. Muscle twitches are minor and often go unnoticed. Most are common and normal.
I sometimes have my eyebrow twitch – drives me crazy because I can’t stop or start it and it feels really big and obvious. Most times, no one else notices!
