Question: What causes lightening

  1. Not sure I’m the most qualified to answer this but it relates to the clouds gathering different charges, much like the positive and negative ends of a battery. A bit like the way that pieces of wire attached to a battery can spark if they’re touched together, the clouds can spark (produce lightning) through the air when they build up enough charge during an “electrical storm”.

  1. Positive and negative charges are created, lightning goes from the ground and from the sky. You may see smaller sections of lightning spreading from the main shot, those are negative charges searching for positive charges, Hope this helped!
