I’ve done other activities with schools, and I’ve shown lots of visitors around the telescopes where I worked. But this is the first live-chat activity with students that I’ve done!
@blue11fudge: I haven’t done IAS before, but it’s been lots of fun. Earlier this year I was on @realscientists which is a Twitter account that rotates around different scientists each week. That was also really fun and great to hear from people all around the world.
I write a blog (Do You Believe in Dog? http://www.doyoubelieveindog.com) with another canine scientist who lives in New York, Julie. We write about lots of different dog science subjects and people read the blog. We’ve got nearly 7,000 followers on Facebook!
My first time too, but I am part of a CSIRO project called “Scientists and Mathematicians in Schools” – and that is how if found out about “I’m a Scientist”
In that scheme, I visit the schools from time to time (I have three schools, all primary schools; one I attended when I was in grades 3 through 5) and meet the children directly. Sometimes I take experiments to show them, or just help with the classes they are doing.
I’ve never done anything like this yet and I don’t know why.
I just got told about it a few months ago and I’m very happy I found out about it. Hope I can do it again. 🙂

No, this is the first time but I’ve wanted to be involved in something like this (or like what Kyler has done) for ages.
