Seriously, there are a few different kinds of working Police dogs and the Australian state and federal Police use different breeds, so there’s not an easy answer.

General Purpose: these are the security, tracking and apprehending dogs used to find criminals – they are usually belgian mallinois or german shepherds, sometimes rottweilers.
Cadaver Detection: these dogs are used to locate dead bodies. They are often labradors or springer spaniels.
Narcotics Detection: these dogs are used to locate illicit drugs. Again, they are often labradors or springer spaniels.
Explosive Detection: these dogs are used to locate explosive substances that might be related to bombs or firearms. Again, they are often labradors or springer spaniels.
Currency detection: these dogs are used to locate large amounts of money (usually in airports or at docks). Again, they are often labradors or springer spaniels.
