The snowy hydro scheme was a HUGE! project that started in 1949 and took 25 years to build. It was a special engineering project to build a way to make hydro electricity, hydro meaning water. Before the NBN broadband network project being built now, it was Australias biggest and most expensive project.
The Snowy Mountains and the Snowy River connect Southern NSW and Victoria. The project was about changing the rivers direction a little to use the water to make electricity. It was one of our first examples of large scale green energy.
