To expand Peter’s answer a little, I know at the least that skull bones need to fuse in a baby to become one single skull bone in an older child. There are also bones in the spine, feet and hands which fuse as a baby grows.

There are 206 bones in the human skeleton. However, we were born with closer to 300. The difference in the number is a result of bones fusing together.
