I guess you are talking about bush-fires. There are several main ways:
Car or truck exhausts that are old and have rusted can give out sparks that will start a fire.
Lightning strikes or power-line short-circuiting electricity through trees can start a fire.
Broken glass can act like a magnifying glass, focusing the Sun’s rays to start a fire.
And perhaps strangest of all, heaps of vegetable material (hay, compost) can start a fire if it gets WET. Bacteria thrive in the damp conditions and raise the temperature; the straw or compost is a good insulator, so it can just get hotter and hotter until it starts to burn.
People sometimes start fires deliberately! They must be mentally sick to do that.
There are probably other causes that I haven’t though of, but those are a start for you.

Peter gives a good answer for the different causes of fire, but all of them have one thing in common: they happen because of a chemical reaction between oxygen in the air and a fuel like wood that is heated to a very high temperature.

@amy12: I think between them that Kyler and Peter have give you a great answer here!

Sticking with bushfires, they can also start due to embers flying though the air ahead of a fire, thereby causing new fires when they land on a fuel source such as dry grass, leaves, etc.
